Scotts Lawn Care

The holding company of Scotts Fertilizer is Scotts Miracle-Gro and offers an extensive selection of fertilizers. Each fertilizer’s composition is formulated to suit specific varieties of lawns. Furthermore, bear in mind that one lawn may require a combination of fertilizers, depending on time of year and the climatic conditions of the area. Lawns in Scottsdale in Arizona, for instance, do not require similar fertilizers to lawns in Duluth, Minnesota. Fortunately, there are lawn care products available to keep your lawn in tip top condition, whatever the conditions and climate of the region.

The complete formula of Scotts Turf Builder lawn fertilizer, containing two percent iron, remains a well-liked option among lawn care hobbyists due to its suitability for use on all types of grass. There are however also specialist blends formulated for specific grass types and climatic conditions. Scotts Turf Builder, for instance, is formulated for grass in southern regions, which are more prone to intense heat and long dry periods.

To reiterate, one lawn may require more than one fertilizer, so while there are a wide variety of fertilizers to suit basically any lawn type (at least thirteen types), you would probably still need a combination of fertilizer-formulas to accomplish a super looking lawn.

Fertilizing Four-Part Schedule

Lawn care enthusiatst suggest using the following four-part schedule when fertilizing: Apply a classic fertilizer in early spring, but where kids are around use Organic products as this particular fertilizer is safe for children to play on even freshly treated lawns. To contain the growth of unwanted weeds, a fertilizer with weed control should be applied in June, and late July to early August. Scotts Lawn Pro Super Turf Builder with ‘Summerguard’ is advised as it also contains the necessary compound to protect your lawn against the intense summer heat, while simultaneously maintaining the lawn’s health during the dry months.

Finally, apply a typically winter-compound fertilizer near the end of the lawn mowing season to prepare the lawn for the harsh winter months ahead.
For maximum success and effectiveness, here are a few basic procedures to be followed at the end of the mowing season. Firstly all dead grass should be removed from the lawn area using a rake and followed up with a tiller to break and loosen the soil, allowing grass roots to penetrate the soil and stimulate growth.

Spread an eight inch layer of fertilizer on bare spots and one sixteenth inch thick layer on thin, but not completely bare spots. Lastly, water well - until the fertilizer turns to a dark brown color. When the grass seed turns light brown, it’s an indication to water again.

Looking after your lawn is an ongoing job and the best way to tackle it is to do a bit at a time to ensure that your grass roots absorb every nutrient needed to lend your lawn that healthy, green appearance you desire and neighbors would envy!

My lawn is more moss than grass. Which Scotts lawn care do you think is best?

I didn't know you can deal with insects while fertilizing your lawn. I usually avoid doing both and my lawn is a mess. Thanks for the heads up - I'll get on to it next weekend.
